Ubisoft has released an offline mode for The Crew 2

Ubisoft has officially added an offline mode called Hybrid Mode to racing MMO project The Crew 2 offline. Owners of the game will now be able to play without an internet connection – unlike the first installment, which became inaccessible after the servers were shut down.

How Hybrid Mode works

According to the description on Ubisoft’s website, Hybrid Mode gives players “freedom of choice”: they can stay in Online Mode with multiplayer, leaderboards and events, or switch to Offline Mode, which is designed for solo play.

To transfer your current progress, you’ll need to select “Export to Offline Save”

Ubisoft clarifies that user livery is not transferred to the offline mode.

Why it matters

The offline mode was announced in 2024 following the closure of the original The Crew, which became completely inaccessible even for single-player. At the time, Ubisoft promised to provide “long-term access” to The Crew 2 and The Crew Motorfest to avoid a repeat of the situation.

After the first game closed, the company faced a lawsuit, with players claiming they lost access to the game they bought. Ubisoft responded that buying the digital version granted a “limited license to access” rather than “full ownership.”

After the first game closed, the company faced a lawsuit, claiming that players had lost access to the game they had purchased.

The release of Hybrid Mode is now a practical step towards fulfilling the promise that The Crew 2 can be run even after the servers are down.
