The launch of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered is officially confirmed – launch tomorrow

Bethesda and Xbox have officially confirmed the release of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered, and announced a live stream that will take place tomorrow, April 22. On it fans will be able to see the updated version of the cult RPG for the first time. While there isn’t much official information yet, there are a few interesting details that give a glimpse of what to expect from the remaster.

The broadcast will begin on Tuesday, April 22, at 11:00am US Eastern Time (8:00am PT / 4:00pm BST) and will be available on Twitch and Bethesda’s YouTube channel. The developers left a cryptic message saying, “All will be revealed…” without revealing any other details. However, recent leaks do give us some clues.

Screenshots from the Virtuos website hit the web last week, showing off the game’s updated graphics, from the landscapes of Cyrodiil to updated character models. The leaks also suggest that the remaster will resemble a full-blown remake – so significant are the changes.

  • redesigned interface (HUD),
  • improved Soulslike punch blocking system,
  • new visual cues for stealthy actions,
  • reworked stamina,
  • completely modified archery mechanics,
  • improved reaction of enemies to the player’s actions.

In addition, the leaks also mention a Deluxe Edition and perhaps even the return of the infamous DLC – «horse armor», which may be mentioned at least as a passphrase.

Oblivion

A remaster of Oblivion has been talked about in the industry for a few years now. In 2020, documents from Microsoft’s five-year plan leaked online, listing Oblivion Remastered as a future project. And in 2023, a former Virtuos employee claimed that the game would be a remake rather than just a remaster.

The last full-fledged installment of The Elder Scrolls – Skyrim – came out in 2011, and since then Bethesda has only mentioned a continuation of the series once, revealing a teaser for TES VI in 2018.

We only have to wait a little while longer – and perhaps Bethesda will keep its promise: all will indeed be revealed.

Watch The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered on Tuesday, April 22, at 8:00 a.m. PT / 11:00 a.m. ET / 4:00 p.m. BST on Bethesda’s official Twitch and YouTube channels.
