Spider-Man 2 may be banned or delayed in the Middle East

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 could be the next entertainment property to fall under the scrutiny of censors in the Middle East, leading to a possible ban or delay in the game’s release.
Publisher Sony began taking pre-orders for the game for the PS5 last month, shortly after announcing Marvel’s Spider-Man 2—s release date of Oct. 20, 2023. However, users in many Middle Eastern countries, including Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and Kuwait, reported that they were unable to pre-order the sequel for PS5.
Sony’s publisher has been unable to pre-order the game for PS5.

The age rating for Spider-Man 2 has reportedly been removed from local PlayStation sites, some of which currently list the game’s release date as — October 20, and «release date to be determined at a later date». It has been claimed that the game’s release may be delayed while content is censored in line with local traditions and values.

Last month, the animated movie Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse was blocked in the UAE for failing to comply with local censorship laws, including over a poster «Protect Transgender Lives» that appears briefly in the background of one of the shots, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
