Roblox introduces age verification for all users with socializing features

The Roblox platform already uses several methods to determine the age of players, including verification through documents, parental consent verification, and facial age recognition technology.
Now, according to the company’s chief security officer Matt Kaufman, those methods will be rolled out to all users who use the communication features within Roblox by the end of the year.
Kaufman said the combination of the different methods “provides a more accurate age determination than simply providing a date of birth when creating an account.”
The company notes that once age verification is implemented for all players with access to chat and voice features, it will be possible to trigger new mechanisms that will prevent adult users from communicating with children.”With this information, we will also implement systems to limit communication between adults and minors unless they know each other in real life,” the statement said.

These measures, Roblox emphasizes, will allow players to access age-appropriate features and content. The company also hopes the move will become a standard for other gaming, social and communication platforms.
Roblox, which has gained immense popularity among children and teens in recent years, attracts hundreds of millions of monthly active users. But along with that, the platform has had serious security issues.

Last year, there were numerous reports that Roblox wasn’t doing enough to protect underage users. As a result, the company tightened the rules for players under 13 and expanded parental controls.
In March, Roblox co-founder and CEO Dave Bazzouki said that if parents doubted the platform’s safety, they could keep their kids off it altogether.”My first piece of advice is, if you don’t feel comfortable, don’t let your kids use Roblox. It sounds paradoxical, but I always trust parents when it comes to their decisions,” Bazzuki explained.
