CES 2025: Stern Pinball unveils new “Dungeons & Dragons: The Tyrant’s Eye” slot machine

Stern Pinball, one of the oldest and best-known pinball machine manufacturers, doesn’t miss an opportunity to show off its new products at CES. In 2025, the company unveiled a unique game in honor of the 50th anniversary of Dungeons & DragonsDungeons & Dragons: The Tyrant’s Eye. Like many pinball games, it can be played without getting into the details, but it hides many interesting features that are revealed over time.

Innovative game progress system

What particularly caught my eye was the ability to select a character and pump it up. To do so, you’ll need to use Stern’s Insider Connected app. This app allows you to create a profile, track achievements, top scores and find games in your area. In the new Dungeons & Dragons game, you can not only start by selecting a character and location, but you can continue to improve your character as you play. The PinSave system allows you to save experience, items and campaign progress between games, a unique feature for pinball machines.

This is certainly an ambitious step for the pinball industry, where things are usually limited to three balls and maximum simplicity. This element adds depth and complexity, allowing players to feel like they are evolving with each new approach.

Gameplay and Features

Dungeons & Dragons utilizes the typical gameplay of modern pinball machines, but with unique features. For example, on the left side of the game’s field is a huge dragon that not only interferes with your throws, but also participates in a special multi-mode where its task is to knock balls down the drain. There’s also a gelatin cube that can freeze a ball in place using magnets.

Sound and cast

Special attention should be paid to the game’s voice acting. The cast includes Michael Dorn (Worf from «Star Trek»), Kevin Smith, as well as actors from Critical Role: Matthew Mercer, Marisha Ray, and Laura Bailey. These are just a small fraction of the actors involved in the project.

Price and Availability

As you might expect, Dungeons & Dragons: The Tyrant’s Eye is not a cheap entertainment machine. Stern is only producing 740 copies, and prices range from $6,999 for the Pro version to $12,999 for the limited edition.
