Bethesda’s Indiana Jones game will be an Xbox exclusive

The Bethesda-developed Indiana Jones game is now an Xbox console exclusive, it has been confirmed. The game’s exclusivity was confirmed Thursday by publisher head Pete Hines, who spoke in court on the first day of Microsoft’s lawsuit against the Federal Trade Commission, which is trying to block Activision Blizzard’s acquisition.

FTC lawyers asked Hines to confirm whether Disney had a signed agreement with its parent company Zenimax to «create an Indiana Jones game for multiple consoles before Microsoft acquired Bethesda, to which he replied «yes».

The publishing boss was then asked to confirm whether Disney had raised the question of which consoles an Indiana Jones game would be released for after the Microsoft acquisition. Hines again answered «yes».

He then confirmed that Bethesda later amended its agreement with Disney, and Indiana Jones will now be exclusive to Xbox and PC, and will also be released on day one on Xbox Game Pass. Announced in January 2021, the Indiana Jones game is in development at MachineGames, the Swedish studio behind the Wolfenstein games.

With the move to Microsoft, Bethesda has honored previous exclusivity agreements with PlayStation for games like Deathloop and Ghostwire: Tokyo, but has made other games, such as Redfall and this year’s sci-fi RPG Starfield, exclusive to the Xbox console.
