Samsung announces Android XR glasses with new features

In conjunction with the unveiling of the Galaxy XR headset, Samsung has unexpectedly revealed another wearable gadget. The South Korean giant is working on smart glasses with artificial intelligence in collaboration with frame makers Warby Parker and Gentle Monster to compete with Ray-Ban models from Meta*. This was announced by Samsung’s head of customer experience Jay Kim at the end of the live broadcast.
“We’re also incredibly excited about the AI-enabled smart glasses project we’re co-creating with Google,” Kim noted. “We are partnering with two of the most progressive brands in eyewear – Warby Parker and Gentle Monster – to offer devices that seamlessly fit into users’ lifestyles.”

Samsung intends to split the trend into two segments. Together with Gentle Monster, the company is developing premium “fashion” glasses aimed at those who appreciate style and exclusivity. The partnership with Warby Parker, on the other hand, is aimed at creating more affordable models for a wider audience. In both cases, the glasses will be equipped with “advanced” artificial intelligence features developed with Google.

Samsung said the new AI glasses will provide “style, comfort and practicality” in everyday life and will be part of the Android XR ecosystem. Judging by the prototype XR glasses Google unveiled in May, the device will likely get a Gemini-based screen that displays notifications, app prompts, music or turn-by-turn navigation. A built-in camera, microphone, and speakers can’t be ruled out.
The company has yet to reveal the design of the new product or give a release date. However, Samsung faces serious competition from Meta*, whose Ray-Ban sunglasses have already made inroads into the market. Meta* recently unveiled a new Ray-Ban Display model with a built-in screen for a full XR experience.
