Nokia unveiled new Wi-Fi 7 routers
By ForGeeks Nokia is expanding its Wi-Fi 7 consumer router lineup with two new models, the Beacon 4 and Beacon 9. These devices are aimed at the home and are designed to provide high-speed wireless connectivity in an era of large-scale deployment of multi-gigabit fiber-optic networks.
Beacon 4 is a smaller model that operates in two bands: 2.4GHz and 5GHz using 2×2 MIMO. It has a maximum wireless data rate of 3.6 Gbps and a coverage area of up to 250m². The device supports channel widths up to 160 MHz and features one 2.5GbE WAN port and two 1GbE LAN ports.
The flagship Beacon 9 utilizes a tri-band architecture and adds 6GHz support, increasing total throughput to 9.4Gbps. It supports extended 320 MHz channels, a functionality still rarely found in routers outside of the top segment. The coverage area has been increased to 280 m². The arsenal includes one 2.5GbE WAN port, one 2.5GbE LAN port and one 1GbE LAN port.
The two models have a minimalist Scandinavian style: clean lines, neutral colors, and matte surfaces. Beacon 4 measures 126.5 x 160 x 43 mm and fits easily on a shelf or desk. Beacon 9 is a bit larger at 173.5 x 140 x 71.5 mm, but with its flowing shapes, it also blends in seamlessly.
The two new products run Nokia’s Corteca software platform. It allows operators to remotely manage home networks, release updates and add new features via the Corteca App Store. This approach reduces support calls and increases network visibility.
The cost of the Nokia routers has not yet been disclosed. They are expected to be distributed as part of carrier Internet packages. The Beacon 4 and Beacon 9 complement the previously announced Beacon 19 and Beacon 24 models to form a full line of Wi-Fi 7 solutions from Nokia for different usage scenarios and budgets.
