Computex 2025: MSI shows new handheld consoles

Nintendo Switch 2 is getting closer and closer to release, but the competition isn’t slumbering either. MSI has unveiled the new Claw A8 handheld gaming console with the latest AMD Ryzen processors, as well as a special edition Claw 8 AI+ in a new design.

The new Claw A8 handheld gaming console features the latest AMD Ryzen processors.

Claw A8: powerful Ryzen Z2 Extreme and 120Hz display

Claw A8 is powered by AMD’s new Ryzen Z2 Extreme APU with Radeon graphics, which promises seriously improved gaming performance. Paired with the chip is up to 24GB of 8000MHz LPDDR5X RAM and 1TB of storage (PCIe NVMe SSD).

The front panel features an 8-inch IPS LCD display with FHD+ resolution, 120Hz refresh rate, 16:10 aspect ratio, touch support, variable frame rate (VRR), brightness up to 500 nits, and 100% coverage of the sRGB color space. The audio system includes two 2W speakers. An 80Wh (6-cell) battery is responsible for battery life.

Among the other specs: Bluetooth 5.3, Wi-Fi 6E, Windows 11 operating system, 3.5mm audio jack, microSD card slot, and a weight of 765 grams.

Claw 8 AI+ Polar Tempest Edition: a new look for a familiar device

Polar Tempest Edition is an updated version of the Claw 8 AI+ in a white case with a glossy UV coating. Technically, it’s almost identical to the original, which is based on the Intel Core Ultra 7 258V. However, the AI+ version has more advanced wireless modules: Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 5.4, something the Claw A8 doesn’t have.

Pricing and availability not yet announced

MSI has not yet revealed pricing and availability date for either the Claw A8 or the Claw 8 AI+ Polar Tempest Edition. However, the Claw A8 is expected to cost less than the AI+ model, given the differences in wireless technology.
