CES 2026: 8BitDo unveiled FlipPad, a game controller for portrait gaming on smartphones

8BitDo has announced a new game controller for smartphones called the FlipPad. Unlike conventional gamepads, the new product is designed for portrait-oriented gaming on Android and iOS devices.

The FlipPad plugs directly into your smartphone’s USB-C connector, then flips up and covers the bottom of the screen, giving you access to the game controls. The vertical-only orientation is what sets the FlipPad apart from other 8BitDo mobile controllers.

The controller features G Classic’s signature style: black crossbar, burgundy ABXY buttons, and gray Start and Select buttons. There are also six white buttons, but the company hasn’t revealed what functions they’ll be responsible for or how they’ll be used in games. Judging by the brand’s previous products, there may be other color options later.

8BitDo claims that the FlipPad is compatible with both Android and iOS devices and is officially supported by Apple. This indicates proper integration with games and control standards in the iOS ecosystem.

Pricing information has not yet been revealed — it will likely come during the company’s full presentation at CES 2026 later this week. The controller won’t be available for sale immediately, either: the FlipPad is expected to be released in the summer. CES 2026 attendees will be able to try out the device in person at 8BitDo’s booth in the Central Hall of the LVCC exhibit hall.
