In a move inspired by the popularity of Apple’s emoji, designer and artist Jose Wong has created a real pair of running sneakers based on the emoji design familiar to many iPhone, iPad and Mac users. These sneakers, dubbed «The Shoe 1», are available to order now.

Sneaker emoji: design and inspiration

As noted by The Verge, Apple’s running sneaker emoji has a direct link to the classic New Balance 574 model, which is often associated with Apple co-founder Steve Jobs. However, the emoji replaces New Balance’s signature logo with two parallel strokes, emphasizing the minimalist style.

Wong combined design elements of the New Balance 574 with recognizable Apple product traits. For example, the sneaker’s packaging features a minimalist design with the words “Designed by Josewong in China.” And the insoles are decorated with an image of the iPhone’s internal components.
