Hackers stole a record $2.7 billion in cryptocurrency in 2025
In 2025, the volume of stolen cryptocurrency reached a record — 2.7 billion dollars. This was reported by blockchain monitoring and cryptocurrency crime investigation companies. This is the highest figure ever recorded in the history of such attacks.
As in previous years, cryptocurrency exchanges, DeFi projects and other Web3 services have been the target of dozens of major hacks. The largest incident was the hack of Bybit, a crypto exchange based in Dubai. Attackers stole about $1.4 billion in digital assets in the attack.
This hack was the largest cryptocurrency theft in history and one of the largest financial scams overall. By comparison, the record previously belonged to the 2022 attacks on Ronin Network and Poly Network, where $624 million and $611 million were stolen, respectively.

Experts note that cybercriminal activity in the cryptosphere is not decreasing. By comparison, hackers will steal $2.2 billion in 2024, and in 2023 — about $2 billion. Current data confirms that the threats to the cryptocurrency industry continue to grow.
