Ural completes engineering phase of Neo 500

Ural Motorcycles has announced the completion of the engineering phase for the Neo 500 project: after a year of refining the platform, the final technical specifications are ready, with a focus on performance, reliability, and compliance. The model is slated to hit the market by the end of 2026.

During development, engineers overhauled the engine and its calibration, updated the transmission and chassis, reinforced the front end, and revamped the control system – it looks like Ural is prepping its classic design for tougher operational and regulatory standards.

Technical changes in the Neo 500

The upgrades include:

  • Replacing the air filter and filtering element;
  • Redesigning the clutch and individual engine calibration;
  • Modifying the sidecar frame and its mounting points;
  • Strengthening the front fork and front brake mounts; installing a hydraulic steering damper;
  • Refreshing the suspension with new shock absorbers, revising brakes, and adding a mechanical parking brake;
  • Changing brake and clutch levers, and updating the handlebar switches;
  • Revamping the lighting system, wiring harness, and instrument panel.

This list reflects a typical upgrade roadmap: improved responsiveness and reliability, reinforced components, updated electronics and lighting – all aimed at reducing breakdowns on long rides and simplifying certification. The mechanical parking brake and steering damper clearly show a focus on safety and ride comfort, especially when handling the sidecar.

Neo 500 launch

The launch is scheduled for late 2026. After that, Ural will announce pricing, trims, and whether the model will be available with or without a sidecar. For a brand long associated with sidecar motorcycles, the Neo 500 appears to be an effort to blend classic architecture with modern standards. In the coming months, expect updates on certification and road testing, which will reveal just how deep the redesign goes.
