Geely EX5 gets CarPlay support through a free update

The Geely EX5 crossover, one of the fastest growing electric cars on the global market, has received Apple CarPlay support. The feature became available this week via a free OTA update and is only rolling out in Australia for now.

Geely EX5: rapid sales growth

Geely, the famous owner of Volvo, Polestar, Lotus and Smart brands, has launched an electric SUV called Galaxy E5 in China and EX5 outside of the country in 2024.

The model launched in the summer of 2024 and reached the 100,000 cars sold mark in China in just six months. By July 2025, global deliveries exceeded 150,000 units. In Australia, the Geely EX5 was the fourth best-selling electric car in June, behind only the Tesla Model Y, BYD Sealion 7 and Tesla Model 3.

CarPlay is available in the EX5

Now EX5 owners in Australia can connect their iPhones to the car’s multimedia system via Apple CarPlay. Both wired and wireless connectivity is supported.

Geely has yet to announce a timeline for expanding the update to markets in Asia, the UK and Europe, but the Australian release hints at an imminent international launch.

It’s notable that CarPlay comes before Android Auto: its introduction isn’t promised until early 2026 and will also be available via an OTA update.

The next generation of CarPlay is on its way

Separately, Apple will update all versions of CarPlay in September 2025 along with the release of iOS 26. Users will get customizable app icons, widget support, and new UI elements.
