BMW 7 Series, X7 and XM get rid of split headlights in renderings

One of the main reasons BMW’s design language has been widely criticized is the split headlight design. Only the company’s biggest models have gone through the unusual makeover, which divides (no pun intended) opinion years after launch. The 7 Series, X7, and XM models can now be imagined without the controversial lighting elements.

These three luxury cars with one-piece headlights are illustrated, and frankly, they don’t necessarily look better. Of this trio, the 7 Series is probably the best looking, followed by the X7 and XM. The SUVs have a clunky design, as the headlights are too small for such a large front end. These models also need more massive headlights to be more proportional with the huge grilles. Perhaps the kidneys need to be made smaller, but that’s another story.

BMW has said it’s not going to do split headlights on other models, which is why the X5 and X6, facelifted last year, dropped the bi-level headlights. The iX — is another big model, but recent spy shots have revealed that the LCI, due in 2025, won’t have fancy headlights either. However, the electric SUV will retain the vertical grille, which has been less than well-received.
An electric SUV, however, will retain the vertical grille.

We’re curious to see what the German luxury brand has planned for the 7 Series LCI and XM LCI. The X7 has already undergone a mid-cycle refresh, so work on the next-generation model is likely already underway. With sales continuing to grow and hitting record numbers in 2023, BMW is unlikely to back away from its flashy designs.
As such, we’re already hearing that the new X5 (G65) will allegedly feature X-shaped headlights. It’s not yet clear whether the cluster itself will be letter-shaped or whether the internal graphics will have a «X» motif. Either way, it looks like the risqué designs will remain.
Anyhow.
