Apple will allow the EU to change Siri to a different voice assistant

The change is being prepared as part of an adaptation to the Digital Markets Act and Digital Services Act.
Apple is working on a feature that will allow iPhone users in the EU to set the default third-party voice assistant instead of Siri. This is reported by Bloomberg citing sources familiar with the development.
The change is part of Apple’s broader strategy to comply with European antitrust regulations, including Digital Markets Act (DMA) and Digital Services Act (DSA). According to sources, users will be able to choose an alternative assistant that will work at the system level -without Siri as an intermediary.
Examples of possible assistants include Google Assistant, ChatGPT and other AI solutions, including China’s DeepSeek. Right now, Siri can already forward requests to ChatGPT, but this feature works as an intermediary. The new solution will make the third-party assistant the primary interface for interacting with voice.
It’s not yet known when the feature will become available. Apple is generally, not in a hurry to implement changes dictated by regulation and is trying to maintain control of the ecosystem. The launch is likely to require additional pressure from EU regulators.
