Windows 11 will introduce Copilot voice activation with the phrase “Hey Copilot!”

Windows 11 will introduce Copilot voice activation with the phrase “Hey Copilot!”

Microsoft has begun testing Copilot voice activation – similar to Siri and Alexa. For now, it’s only available to Windows Insider members, but a launch for everyone is near.

Microsoft has added an experimental feature to Windows 11 that lets you start Copilot with a voice command. Now all you have to do to start a conversation with the AI assistant is say “Hey Copilot!” – without pressing any keys. This feature is already available to members of the Windows Insider program with the updated version of the app.

Voice Control Copilot: How It Works

Voice Call Copilot is a new option that complements the recent update to the voice control interface in Windows. Once the feature is activated, users will see a floating window with a microphone icon near the bottom bar of the screen, and will also hear a beep to confirm that Copilot has started listening.

A similar approach has long been implemented in Siri, Alexa, and Google Assistant. Microsoft has also used a similar solution with Cortana – but now Copilot has taken its place.

  • be a Windows Insider member;
  • use Windows 11 in English;
  • update Copilot to version 1.25051.10.0 or newer;
  • manually activate the function in the settings.

Security and offline recognition

Microsoft says the “Hey Copilot!” command is recognized right on the device, thanks to a local analyzer with a 10-second audio buffer. That means the audio isn’t sent to the cloud or stored on disk. Recognition works even without an internet connection, but you’ll need access to Microsoft’s online services to fully respond to Copilot.

When to wait for everyone?”

The feature is being rolled out in stages and is not yet available to all users, even insiders. Still, it’s only a matter of time before it launches in a wide version of Windows 11. Microsoft is actively developing Copilot into a full-fledged voice assistant for work, learning, and everyday tasks.

Voice control is another step toward a more natural interaction with AI in Windows. Would you use voice activation in Windows 11?
