Nintendo Switch 2 will be revealed on April 2: where and when to watch the long-awaited presentation

The most high-profile gaming premiere of recent years is on its doorstep, with Nintendo finally ready to reveal all the details about its new console. On April 2, the developers will broadcast a special Switch 2 Direct, during which they promise to show the console in action, share details about its specs, and possibly announce new exclusive games.

What we know about Nintendo Switch 2 before the presentation

Nintendo confirmed the existence of the Switch 2 back in January 2025. At that time, a short teaser was published in which some of the device’s features could be spotted: updated Joy-Con controllers with magnetic mounts, a larger case, and a short snippet of the new part of Mario Kart. However, the video itself didn’t include any technical specs and didn’t answer the main question: how exactly does the new console differ from the original Switch?”

Based on Nintendo’s previous announcements, it’s known that Switch 2 will be backwards compatible with cartridges from the first-generation Switch, and will also allow transfer of digital games between systems. This means that owners of an extensive digital library won’t lose their purchases. In addition, leaks and insider statements point to a larger screen size, more powerful graphics, and a complete redesign of the controllers.

Where and when to watch Switch 2 Direct

The Nintendo Switch 2 Direct will be unveiled on April 2 at 4:00 p.m. Moscow time (that’s 9:00 a.m. U.S. Eastern time). The live stream will be available on Nintendo’s official channels on YouTube and Twitch, as well as through the company’s new app called Nintendo Today, where a recording of the broadcast and additional footage will be available later. Or you can watch Nintendo’s presentation right here (if you have YouTube running):

According to Nintendo itself, the event will last about 60 minutes. In that hour, developers are expected to show off not only the final design of the console, but also the first games that will be available at launch. It’s also rumored that we may see a full trailer of the new Mario Kart, which will apparently be the platform’s flagship launch title.

Why this event is not to be missed

Switch 2 isn’t just another update. It’s been more than seven years since the original Nintendo Switch was released in 2017, and the gaming community has long been waiting for a real jump-start. The new console could change the balance of power in a market dominated by the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.
