Best smartphone from IFA 2023: Honor Magic V2
Although the smartphone made its debut back in July, Honor made a global presentation of the Magic V2 at IFA 2023. And it easily stole all the attention for itself, winning the award for «Best Smartphone».
Honor Magic V2

Magic V2 — one of the most interesting foldable phones of the year, if only because of its thinness. When closed, the device is 9.9mm thick, which is two millimeters thinner than the thinnest folding phone — Google’s Pixel Fold. Honor says it will be sold in parts of Europe and the UK in addition to China.

There’s a large 6.43-inch screen, an even larger 7.92-inch fold-out screen (with an almost square 9.78:9 aspect ratio), a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor, three rear cameras, 16GB of RAM, plenty of storage, a 5,000mAh battery and 66W SuperCharge fast charging. It runs on Magic OS 7.2, based on Android 13, with a full suite of Google services.

Best IFA 2023 laptop: Lenovo Legion 9i
Nobody’s partial to cool design, and Lenovo offers just that: the lid is made of carbon fiber, there’s RGB lighting everywhere, and the 16-inch screen makes for a massive laptop.
Lenovo’s Legion 9i
But another reason this laptop made such a strong impression — it’s the cooling system. Inside, Lenovo has built in a liquid cooling system that works right on top of the VRAM to ensure consistent graphics performance, even when the laptop starts to heat up. Liquid cooling is typically used in external units, which are more often sold separately from the main laptop. This is the first time we’ve seen a system like this in person, and Lenovo managed to do it while keeping the total weight under six pounds.
The Legion 9i costs $4,399, which isn’t cheap. In return, you get powerful specs: an Intel Core i9-13980HX processor, Nvidia GeForce RTX 4090 graphics, up to 64GB of RAM and 2TB of storage, a 99.99Wh battery, and a mini LED-backlit screen with a 165Hz refresh rate.
The Legion 9i is a great value for the money.
Will all this make a gaming laptop that costs twice as much money as most people are likely to spend? We’re not sure, but the Legion 9i — it’s a cool laptop that takes risks by utilizing innovative cooling technology and a unique design.
Best smartwatch of IFA 2023: Withings ScanWatch 2

ScanWatch 2 further emphasizes the fact that you can wear it all day, every day of the week, thanks to its 30-day battery life and features that track your health while the watch is on your wrist. There’s a body temperature monitor that tracks your menstrual cycle, proactive heart health notifications, and automatic workout detection.
The watch has a body temperature monitor that tracks your menstrual cycle, proactive heart health notifications, and automatic workout detection.
It’s still a smartwatch, of course, so you get all the smartphone notifications on your wrist, an alarm clock, stopwatch and more, all in a design that’s nicer than a touchscreen watch.
IFA 2023’s Best Robot: SwitchBot S10
There were plenty of robot vacuum cleaners on display at IFA 2023, but it was the new SwitchBot S10 vacuum cleaner that made the biggest impression. Not only does it vacuum and mop floors around the house on its own, but it automatically removes dirt into a battery-powered water station connected to the water supply. It then gets fresh water from the mains water supply, so you don’t have to worry about filling it up again when you need to mop your floors.
The S10BotBot S10 is a great way to keep your floors clean.

Besides the initial setup of the S10, the only thing you’ll need to do is clean the dust bag once every 70 days, making it one of the most autonomous cleaning robots out there. It’s an amazing concept that seems obvious, but has been ignored by most manufacturers until now.

Best new product at IFA 2023: XGIMI Horizon Ultra
.
The Horizon Ultra, the company’s latest high-end projector, looks like nothing more than a fancy 4K projector with a few nifty color correction tricks up its sleeve. But dive a little deeper, and you’ll realize it’s much more than just a projector.
XGIMI has developed an incredibly sophisticated projection system called Laser-LED Dual Light technology. This system combines laser and LED light into a single unit, allowing Horizon Ultra to take advantage of the different strengths and weaknesses of both technologies to deliver the most accurate color, brightness and image quality possible.
The projector’s brightness reaches 2,300 lumens (that’s brighter than most high-end projectors on the market), supports over 95.5% DCI-P3 color gamut, has plenty of automatic color and brightness correction tools, supports Dolby Vision, and runs an Android TV. For $1,699, the Horizon Ultra —. The Horizon Ultra — is an impressive feat of engineering.
Best Concept IFA 2023: Honor V Purse
Honor V Purse — is another attempt to merge fashion and technology, and Honor definitely has something interesting in store. It’s a Magic V2 convertible phone with hooks on the side for attaching a strap, turning it into a kind of «purse». The external display can display a wallpaper that mimics the style of the purse, with various preset options to get the look you want.

It also comes with an optional mount to keep both halves of the display folded when carrying it around. Will it be a hit with those who want a smartphone with a trendy design? We don’t know, and the fact that Honor doesn’t seem to be looking to develop it beyond the concept stage doesn’t help. What’s interesting is that Honor sees a market where something like this could be successful.
