Venom 3: release date, plot, actors, trailer and more

In 2018, Sony made an attempt at Marvel movies without direct involvement from Marvel Studios. Sony’s first movie was «Venom» based on one of Spidey’s greatest villains, whom Topher Grace previously portrayed in the 2007 film «Spider-Man 3». Tom Hardy of played the role of reporter Eddie Brock and the alien symbiote that contacted him. And unlike Sony’s later film «Morbius», Venom was a big hit, earning $856 million.

Hardy reprised the role in the second film in 2021, which also exceeded expectations at the post-Pandemic box office. Later this year, Hardy will return again as Eddie and Venom in the third film, which is described as the final chapter of the trilogy. Despite this, the sequel may not be the end of Hardy’s superhero career, especially after his cameo in the CWM in 2021. Following in the footsteps of previous directors Ruben Fleischer and Andy Serkis, Kelly Marcel will make his directorial debut on the third film. That question is unanswered because Sony has yet to announce any specific details. We don’t even know what characters will appear in the movie besides Eddie and Venom. What we can say, though, is that Hardy and Marcel collaborated on the story, as they did with the second movie. That movie ended with Eddie Brock on the run after a symbiote helped him escape from prison. Their brief trip to the KVM in the scene after the credits temporarily interrupted that subplot. Presumably, the sequel will pick up this narrative thread when Eddie and Venom return home.

It’s also safe to assume that the sequel’s action will take place outside of San Francisco and on an international stage. Parts of the movie were filmed in Spain and London. It makes sense if the plot will unfold there as well. This raises two important questions: Why did Eddie and Venom end up in Europe? And who are they up against?”

Besides Hardy for the role of Eddie Brock, only two actors have been confirmed for «Venom 3»: Juno Temple of «Ted Lasso» and Chiwetel Ejiofor of «Dr. Strange». Despite Ejiofor’s experience at Marvel, it is unlikely that he will reprise his role as Carl Mordo in this movie. Ejiofor will likely play a different character, but no one knows if he’ll be Eddie’s friend or the movie’s main villain.

Also, nothing is known about Temple’s character in the movie. It’s confirmed that Temple will play one of the lead roles in the third movie, which suggests she’ll be involved with Venom and could even be a love interest for Eddie.

Will the other actors return?”

Although the return of supporting actors from the first two films is not in doubt, none have been confirmed.Michelle Williams played Eddie’s former fiancée, Ann Weining, in the first two films, and Reed Scott portrayed Ann’s fiancé, Dan Lewis. Both Ann  and Dan are well aware of Eddie’s dual identity as Venom and were his allies in the previous two films.

In addition, Stephen Graham should be a good contender for a return, as it was revealed in the previous movie that his character, Detective Patrick Mulligan, survived «fatal injuries» and was linked to another symbiote. In the comics, Mulligan was the first host of the Toxin symbiote, which turned out to be a heroic character.

Peggy Lou also appeared in the first two films as Mrs. Chen, a convenience store owner who briefly becomes the symbiote’s host in the second film. But if the action of «Venom 3» is set in Europe, Mrs. Chen may not have a role in that film.

Not directly, since the Sony Spider-Man universe and the Marvel Cinematic Universe were created as separate worlds within the multiverse. However, Hardy’s cameo as Eddie Brock/Venom in «Spider-Man: No Way Home» literally left a piece of the Venom symbiote in KVM, when they returned to their world. This seems like preparation for the possibility that Tom Holland’s Spider-Man will get closer to the symbiote in the future. But since Marvel Studios and Sony have yet to announce a new Spider-Man movie, we can only guess when that will happen.

Is there a trailer for the movie?”

Not yet. Unlike many films, interrupted by a writers’ and actors’ strike last year, «Venom 3» quickly resumed production in November 2023 which means, the film’s trailer, will likely be ready in time for April CinemaCon. Sony likes to present trailers at CinemaCon, where 2023 Craven’s trailer was shown at 2023 — another Sony film, related to Spider-Man, and it’s being released on August 30 a few months ahead of «Venom 3».
