AstroBot and others: the main gaming novelties of September 2024

As soon as fall arrives the number of video game releases only increases. August has already been a pretty busy month with games like Black Myth: Wukong and Star Wars Outlaws, and September looks like it won’t be far behind either. We can expect some big AAA titles to be released this month, but September —s a great month for niche games that will appeal to gamers who are into certain genres.

September is also a great month for niche games that will appeal to gamers who are into certain genres.

The Casting of Frank Stone (Sept. 3)

AstroBot

Supermassive Games is known for its cinematic adventure horror games in which all critical life-or-death decisions are in the hands of players. It previously did this with Until Dawn, The Dark Pictures and The Quarry games. Now, the company has partnered with Behaviour Interactive to create an adventure game in the universe of the asymmetrical multiplayer game Dead by Daylight. If you want to learn more about Dead by Daylight or are just a fan of Supermassive’s adventure games, The Casting of Frank Stone is definitely worth checking out.

AstroBot (Sept. 6)

AstroBot

Astro’s Playroom game came out as a sci-fi package for the PS5, and this month it’s getting a full-fledged sequel. AstroBot will be a full 3D platformer, full of cameos and references to other PlayStation franchises. From God of War to Bloodborne — many different PlayStation games will make an appearance here. Expect more in-depth cutscenes as well. Beyond that, AstroBot just looks to be a creative and accessible platformer for gamers of all ages. It’s one of the most anticipated games of the year, and you should definitely give it your attention.

AstroBot will be released on September 6 exclusively for PS5.

Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 (Sept. 9)

AstroBot

The original Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine is considered one of the best Warhammer video games ever, and now it will have a sequel from the developers of the hit game World War Z. It uses technology from that zombie game to create huge hordes of enemies for the titular Space Marines to battle. Campaign, co-op modes and competitive multiplayer — fans of third-person shooters definitely won’t want to miss this game. I think Space Marine 2 has a good chance of breaking into the mainstream more than any Warhammer game before it.

UFO 50 (Sept. 18)

AstroBot

The next release from the creators of Spelunky — is a complete departure from the popular roguelike: UFO 50. It’s a package of 50 different retro-inspired games. The point is that all of these games were created by a fictional developer within eight years, and this package reimagines them for the modern gaming era. There are full platformers, fighting games, RPGs, and more. In a month where there are already a lot of games, UFO 50 is going to dump another 50 potentially fantastic games on this pile.

At the same time, it’s a lot of games to play.

UFO 50 comes out on PC on September 18.

Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster (Sept. 19)

.

AstroBot

Fans of Capcom’s neglected zombie game franchise will have something to savor this month. Dead Rising returns with Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster, which, despite its name, is essentially a full-fledged remake of the 2006 original. The game retains all of the charm and quirks that made the original so special, but is more modern, adding auto-save and the ability to move and shoot at the same time. Let’s hope it succeeds, and the series can return with a new installment.

Hopefully, the series will be able to return with a new installment.

Frostpunk 2 (Sept. 20)

AstroBot

The original Frostpunk — a tense survival city-building project in which players have to make tough choices to succeed and prevent their city from falling. With a sequel coming out later this month, Frostpunk 2 looks set to get even bigger. Frostpunk 2 — is a full-fledged city-building game in which players will have to worry about macro-managing entire neighborhoods, rather than individual buildings in one area. Don’t expect this shift in scale to make Frostpunk 2 any less tense; it looks like it will be even more intense than its first installment.

Ara: History Untold (Sept. 24)

AstroBot

If you’re a fan of 4X strategies like Sid Meier’s Civilization VI and Humankind, then Ara: History Untold should be on your radar this month. Similar to those games, Ara: History Untold challenges players to manage a nation throughout history, balancing things like happiness and wealth with the development of their civilization. This game differs from its counterparts in that players can make small changes to their territory to maximize resource production and productivity. It’s a very complex game that looks like it will take time to master, but that’s what you sometimes want from an ambitious new 4X game.

An ambitious new 4X game.

Ara: History Untold comes out on PC on September 24.

The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom (September 24)

.

AstroBot

A little over a year after The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, we get another ambitious Zelda game. The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom copies the aesthetic and perspective of Link’s 2019 remake, Link’s Awakening, but puts players in Zelda’s shoes rather than Link’s. Using its Tri-Rod to capture and create copies of enemies and bind itself to items, Echoes of Wisdom looks to emphasize puzzle solving and creativity, much like Tears of the Kingdom. All the more reason players have been waiting for Zelda to become a main playable character for a long time.

The game’s main character will be Zelda.

The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom will be released on September 24 exclusively for Nintendo Switch.
