Thing of the Day: Meiji introduced ChocoBoy-inspired mushroom headphones

Japanese company Meiji has unveiled its latest headphones, which not only have a unique look in the shape of a chocolate confection called ChocoBoy, but also have a number of revolutionary features.
The gadget can be used to synchronously translate foreign speech, providing audio in your own language. Meiji promises support for as many as 127 languages, and plans to release the headphones as early as spring 2024.

The device features two modes of operation: “speaker” mode, which transforms speech in a foreign language (voice) and “simultaneous translation” mode, which translates both languages in real time. This is accomplished by placing one earpiece in each ear.
But it’s not just the functionality that makes the headphones special. Their case is a tricky accessory, too. It’s shaped like a box from an original cookie that’s a favorite in Japan. Back home, the product is known as Kinoko no Yama, which literally translates to “mushroom mountain”.
