Apex Legends support on Nintendo Switch will end in summer 2026

Respawn Entertainment has announced that it will officially end support for Apex Legends on the Nintendo Switch. The game’s version for the original Switch will be fully discontinued in the summer of 2026.

Apex Legends originally launched in 2019 on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC, before making its way to Nintendo Switch in 2021. After several seasons, the studio has now confirmed that support for the Switch edition will end completely.

The developers revealed that Season 29 will be the final update for Apex Legends on the Nintendo Switch. Starting with Season 30, the game will continue exclusively on the Nintendo Switch 2. From August 4, 2026, players will no longer be able to launch Apex Legends on the original Switch. Until then, users can keep playing, competing in matches, and earning rewards as usual.

In-game currency purchases will remain available right up until the servers shut down. Respawn clarified that players who later upgrade to the Nintendo Switch 2 version will retain access to their current Apex Coins balance.

While Apex Legends supports cross-progression across platforms, this does not apply to currency purchased or earned on the Switch. Apex Coins gained on the Nintendo Switch remain tied to the Nintendo ecosystem. However, items bought with those coins will be available on other platforms-the limitation only affects the coins themselves.

This means Switch players with leftover Apex Coins will need to either spend them before August 4, 2026, and move to another platform, or upgrade to the Nintendo Switch 2 to keep their balance intact.

Respawn also emphasized that Apex Legends will continue to be available on all other supported platforms. The studio is focused on evolving the game’s content and technical foundation to deliver the best possible experience.

The developers expressed gratitude to Nintendo for their contribution to the Switch 2 platform, highlighting that the new console offers an excellent portable experience for Apex Legends. They also thanked the Nintendo community for supporting the game from day one and invited players to continue their journey on the Nintendo Switch 2.
