Samsung to lead the global DRAM market in the third quarter of 2025

Samsung has regained the top spot in the global DRAM market. The company has been the leader in this segment for many years, but lost the position to its longtime rival SK Hynix earlier this year. Now, after a successful quarter, Samsung is back on top.

According to reports, Samsung’s revenue in the DRAM market reached $13.942 billion in the third quarter of 2025, up nearly 30% from the previous quarter. This growth allowed the company to increase its market share to 34.8%.

Samsung had previously ceded leadership to SK Hynix due to weak sales of high-speed HBM memory. Promoting HBM3e proved difficult — the company faced delayed approvals from major partners such as NVIDIA. SK Hynix was able to capitalize on this by temporarily coming out ahead.

Nevertheless, SK Hynix remains a strong player, with third-quarter revenue of $13.79 billion and a market share of —34.4 percent. The companies are still almost on par, so the lead could change again in the coming quarters.

The coming periods are expected to be extremely profitable for memory makers. Demand for chips for artificial intelligence is pushing the market towards a «supercycle». Samsung is already reported to have raised prices on some types of memory by up to 60%, showing its willingness to make the most of the growing demand and strengthen its financial performance.
