Apple Vision Pro: equipment shortages will cut production in half

There’s an ongoing debate about Apple’s recently announced Vision Pro device and its potential success. Some believe that the initial interest in the novelty is not too great, although the apple giant claims otherwise. Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo supports the skeptics in this matter and provides some figures to back up his claims.

Kuo believes that hardware shortages will be a major hurdle for Apple in the near future. Only a few key suppliers made the list, and they’re only capable of supplying half of what the company had originally planned. So, based on the maximum capacity of these suppliers, only 400,000-600,000 Vision Pros are likely to be produced in 2024. And that’s not enough to meet the estimated demand of 1 million units that year. This announcement coincides with an earlier report on production capacity.

As a result, Apple has canceled development of its low-cost headset planned for 2025. Because of this, the company will be able to focus on the only available Vision Pro headset and release the required number of devices. The Cupertino giant is predicted to unveil a hardware update in the distant 2027 as it will not be able to resolve supply chain issues. In addition, Ming-Chi Kuo believes that Apple will find it difficult to explain the possible uses of the Vision Pro to users, despite the excellent user experience. It will take a long time for the Vision Pro to become a mainstream product that everyone wants, just like the iPhone.
