Ford recalls 694,000 vehicles due to fire risk

Ford is recalling 694,192 Bronco Sport and Escape model vehicles. The reason is a fire risk associated with cracked fuel injectors.
The problem has been identified in models with the 1.5-liter engine
The recall involves Bronco Sport vehicles manufactured from 2021-2024 and Escape 2020-2022 equipped with the 1.5-liter gasoline engine. According to ABC News, a crack in the injector could lead to a fuel leak. If it comes in contact with hot engine or exhaust system components, it increases the likelihood of a fire.
Ford has been investigating since 2022
The U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) said Ford has been investigating the injector problem since 2022. As part of its internal reviews, the company has already approved recalls three times – in November 2022, March 2024 and March 2025. During that period, the automaker issued updates to the engine management software.
At that time, the automaker has also issued updates to its engine management software.

Ford continued its investigation in the spring of 2025, focusing on the possible role of corrosion as a factor in injector failure. The company said it found cracks in eight vehicles in which an under-hood fire had occurred. In six of those cases, new software had not been installed.
To date, no injuries have been reported. However, the company has decided to initiate a large-scale recall and offer a free software update for all affected models. This is a temporary measure while Ford looks for a permanent solution to the problem.
