OpenAI is preparing to release its own AI browser

According to Reuters on Wednesday, OpenAI plans to unveil its own artificial intelligence-powered web browser shortly after the launch of Perplexity’s Comet browser to rival Google Chrome.
The ChatGPT developer intends to release the browser in the coming weeks, according to the agency. Like Perplexity’s Comet and Dia from the company of the same name, the OpenAI product will use AI to change the traditional way users interact with the internet. The browser is expected to handle a portion of requests directly inside ChatGPT, minimizing clicks on external links.

In addition, Reuters notes that a key feature of the new browser could be integration with Operator, OpenAI’s AI web search agent.
The company has previously considered creating a Google Chrome competitor in 2024. Similar to Perplexity, OpenAI aims to gain direct access to user data and create a Google-independent experience for its customers.
