Warcraft Rumble was announced in 2019 under the title Warcraft Arclight Rumble. Like Hearthstone, the game was another attempt to bring Blizzard’s acclaimed franchise to mobile devices. The gameplay resembled a more flexible version of Clash Royale – miniature armies fight in PvP or single-player challenges, and a key element of strategy is choosing when and where to place characters.
According to Aftermath, the winding down of Warcraft Rumble development is directly related to layoffs at Microsoft. Some of the staff involved in creating new content for the game will be transferred to other Blizzard projects, but some will lose their jobs. In an internal email obtained by Aftermath’s editorial team, Blizzard president Joanna Faris confirmed the layoffs. In a public statement, however, Blizzard merely noted that it was focused on “supporting its team,” without going into specifics.
