Apple has confirmed the compatibility of iPadOS 26 with current iPads

Apple has officially announced which iPad models will receive an update to iPadOS 26. The new system will offer a redesigned interface, improved windowing, and other features.

iPadOS 26 will get a redesigned Liquid Glass design, panel-style menus, and improved window organization. The update will be available for most current devices, including iPads based on the M4, A16, and A17 Pro chips.

Which iPad models support iPadOS 26

According to Apple, users of the following models will be able to install iPadOS 26:

  • iPad Pro with M4 chip
  • iPad Pro 12.9 inches (from 3rd generation)
  • iPad Pro 11 inches (all generations from the first)
  • iPad Air with M2 chip and newer
  • iPad Air (from 3rd generation)
  • iPad with A16 chip
  • iPad (from 8th generation)
  • iPad mini with A17 Pro chip
  • iPad mini (from 5th generation)

So the vast majority of current Apple tablets will remain on the current version of iPadOS.

Which iPads won’t get the update

Of all the models that were compatible with the previous version of iPadOS 18, only one tablet won’t be able to upgrade to iPadOS 26. It’s the budget iPad 7th generation. It’s officially dropped from the list of supported devices.

When will the update be released

The first beta version of iPadOS 26 is already available for developers. Public testing will begin next month. The final release will take place before the end of 2025.
