Doom: The Dark Ages is the biggest launch in id Software’s history

Publisher Bethesda says Doom: The Dark Ages has become id Software Studios’ biggest release yet. More than 3 million players have already played it since its May 15 release, making this a record launch for the legendary developer.
According to Bethesda’s official X account (formerly Twitter), the novelty hit the 3 million player mark seven times faster than Doom Eternal. While Superdata analysts previously claimed that Eternal had reached the same number in 10 days, those figures were just estimates, not official stats from the publisher.

The new Doom is a completely single-player game with no multiplayer, with an emphasis on story, which the developers are calling the best in the series. The events of the game take place between Doom 64 and 2016’s Doom relaunch.
According to SteamDB, the peak online on Steam was 31,470 players, well below Doom Eternal’s 104,891. However, it’s worth bearing in mind that Doom Eternal wasn’t available via Game Pass at launch, whereas Doom: The Dark Ages was released straight to the PC Game Pass subscription, which may have reduced sales on Steam and affected the stats.
