The leak reveals that the car will measure 5,020 mm long, 1,999 mm wide and 1,460 mm tall (roughly like the Tesla Model S) and will be offered with two electric powertrains: a single-engine unit sending 308 hp to the rear wheels, and an all-wheel-drive twin-engine unit with 570 hp. No word yet on batteries, but 90 and 116 kWh units are available for the 11, capable of charging at speeds of up to 240 kW.

The yet-to-be-named concept will complete the i Vision trilogy of concepts, following in the footsteps of the sustainability-focused i Vision Circular shown at Munich 2021 and the i Vision Dee unveiled at CES earlier this year (pictured above).

It will be the first to showcase new powertrain and battery technologies, particularly new cylindrical cells (which have yet to be shown as part of a production car). It’s claimed they will increase range by 30%, up to 620 miles between recharges. Fast charging times will improve by 30%, and the overall weight of the battery pack will be reduced by 10-20%.

The battery pack’s weight will be reduced by 10-20%.

The interior of the concept is expected to build on ideas shown in the Vision Dee, such as doing away with the traditional touchscreen infotainment system in favor of a windshield-mounted display. The Dee — the artificial intelligence-enabled assistant after which the concept was named — could also return in a more softened, production-ready form. Stylistically, the Neue Klasse concept is expected to replicate the «shark noses» of the previous two i Vision cars, but will resemble the current 3 Series in form factor. That car is expected to be replaced by a hybrid and electric successor after the new 5 Series and the latest 7 Series.

«Neue Klasse represents the beginning of a new phase of BMW»s business, —R&D chief Frank Weber said in 2021. «It is scaled so that we can create electric vehicles from the 2 Series sedan to the X7» SUV.”

BYD

BYD is set to detail the next phase of its European expansion, hoping to double its global sales from the nearly two million units it recorded last year. The Chinese electric car giant has already rolled out the Atto 3 crossover, Han sedan and Tang SUV in European markets, with the Dolphin hatchback (pictured) and Seal sedan soon to follow.

LG

LG Electronics will demonstrate how in-car entertainment will change in the coming years, promising to bring «Life’s Good to the road». In July, the company announced that it was moving to create «a smart living solutions company» and aims to become a leading mobility provider.

Magna — one of the automotive industry’s largest suppliers, offering contract manufacturing, powertrains, seating systems and more. This year, it will introduce integrated electrification, active safety systems and advanced connectivity. It will also introduce a new software package with predictive features for energy management independent of powertrain. Given Magna’s influence on the industry, it’s safe to say that at least one of the systems it unveiled at the Munich show will be included in your next car, so it’s worth paying attention.

Mercedes-Benz

Mercedes will also unveil its next generation of electric vehicles at the Munich show. The company has confirmed that the new model, which will go on sale in 2024, will occupy the entry-level segment and is expected to be similar to the current C-Class, but with a sleek roof line reminiscent of the outgoing CLA.

It will build on the experience of the slippery EQXX concept, which was capable of traveling 747 miles between Stuttgart and Goodwood on a single charge. Such a value was achieved thanks in part to innovative energy-density battery technology and roof-mounted solar panels.

Renault

The televised unveiling of the new Scenic will take place in Munich. The famed family hauler will return as an electric SUV to rival the Tesla Model Y, with a futuristic, angular design and an emphasis on eco-friendliness.

Tesla

Tesla has confirmed its appearance at the Munich Motor Show, suggesting it has something to show besides its existing Model 3, Model Y, Model S and Model X lineup. Speculation around the long-awaited «Model 2» has been increasing over the past year, and back in May the company released a teaser image of the new car.

According to recent reports, the company is currently looking for a new plant to produce the model at a reduced cost, with Reuters citing India as one such option.

Also the Tesla unveiled in Munich — if the EV giant shows a new vehicle — could be an updated Model 3, which has been codenamed Highland, according to multiple reports. The model update is expected to include minor design changes, an upgraded infotainment system and mechanical simplification, in line with the company’s goals of lowering costs and increasing production.

It won’t be presented as a Vauxhall at the Munich show, as the UK is the only market to which Vauxhall-branded cars are delivered. Instead, it will carry the lightning bolt emblem and the badge of sister company Opel.

Volkswagen

Volkswagen’s answer to the Tesla Model 3 Performance will be unveiled at the Munich show, featuring a new twin-engine powertrain with all-wheel drive. According to Autocar, it will combine the base model’s 282 hp and 402 lb-ft rear engine with the front engine from the ID 4 GTX, for a combined output of about 390 hp

This should significantly reduce the ID 7’s 0-to-62-mph acceleration time, which is about 6.0 seconds in the Pro S version, though it’s unlikely to match the Model 3 Performance’s 3.3s. However, the upgrade is expected to slightly reduce the ID 7’s 435-mile range (in the 86-kWh battery version) to about 400 miles.
