Rokvul plant in Zheleznodorozhny switched to renewable energy sources

In April 2025, ROCKWUL’s plant in Balashikha (Zheleznodorozhny district) near Moscow completed the transition to green energy. The plant confirmed its consumption of about 27.4 million kW⋅h of electricity per year generated by nuclear power plants. Since nuclear power plants have a zero carbon footprint, this was an important milestone in the realization of the company’s ESG strategy.

Denis Romanov, Rokvul’s technical director, explained that the production of stone wool requires large amounts of energy. That is why it was the Zheleznodorozhny plant that was the first to switch to renewable sources. Its energy consumption is about five times higher than that of the company’s other plants. Thus, the transition has maximized the reduction of the carbon footprint.

In addition, the Balashikha plant is fully compliant with Russian environmental legislation and safety standards. Previously, the plant was certified EcoMaterial 2.0. All products have also received Absolute status, which confirms their environmental friendliness at all stages – from production to utilization. With the use of nuclear power, the plant’s environmental friendliness has reached a new level.

Nikolai Kulygin, General Director of RN-Energo, an energy sales company, emphasized that the transition to green energy is becoming an important part of sustainable development. According to him, RN-Energo helps businesses to quickly formalize the transition to green energy consumption. The company provides support at all stages, from choosing an energy source to obtaining certificates.

It is worth noting that Rokvul is the fourth RN-Energo partner to fully switch to renewable energy sources. The Leningrad NPP, Russia’s largest nuclear power plant by capacity, became the plant’s main electricity supplier. On average, the transition process takes two to three months. However, much depends on the plant’s internal regulations, readiness to make quick decisions and interact with the energy sector.
