AMD unveiled the Ryzen 9 7945HX3D

Amdm announced the new Ryzen 9 7945HX3D, the world’s first notebook processor with 3D V-Cache technology. Essentially, the 7945HX3D — is a 7945HX, but with double the amount of L3 cache. While the L1 and L2 cache remains at 1MB and 16MB respectively, the L3 cache increases from an impressive 64MB like the 7945HX to an impressive 128MB, for a total of 145MB.

The AMD 3D V-Cache technology, first introduced last year in the Ryzen 7 5800X3D desktop processors, is essentially an extra layer of memory on the processor chip. While for most applications the addition of cache memory offers no improvement, games benefit from it. The extra memory on the die allows games to access slower and more physically distant system memory less frequently, resulting in faster per-frame processing and higher frame rates overall.

AMD

The AMD 7945HX3D is otherwise very similar to the 7945HX. It has 16 Zen4 cores and 32 threads spread evenly across two core complexes. As with the 7945HX, the cache is also split between the two CCPs, but in the 7945HX3D one CCP gets an additional 64MB of L3 cache, leaving 96MB on one CCP and 32MB on the other —32MB. This also means that only one CCD with 8 cores is used in games, and the other CCD is idle unless the program requires it. This behavior is similar to the desktop parts of the 7950X3D and 7900X3D.

So the 7950X3D and 7900X3D are similar.

AMD

The 7945HX3D processor is overclockable up to 5.4GHz and can be overclocked manually or automatically with AMD Precision Boost Overdrive. The default TDP is 55W and can be customized by the notebook manufacturer between 55W and 75W. The maximum operating temperature is lowered to 89°C, similar to other models with 3D V-Cache, as the additional memory layer prevents efficient heat dissipation and requires the chip to be cooler.

The 7945HX3D will first be available in the ASUS ROG Scar 17 notebook starting August 22, with more models to follow worldwide.
