Oppo A5 smartphone with AMOLED screen and 6500 mAh battery is released
By ForGeeks Oppo has unveiled the new budget smartphone Oppo A5 in China, which replaces last year’s Oppo A3. The A4 model has been omitted as the number 4 is considered unlucky in China.
Display: major update
One of the key improvements in the A5 is the AMOLED display – it’s now a 6.7-inch Full HD+ panel with a 120Hz refresh rate. The screen supports 10-bit color depth and maximum brightness of 1200 nits, and is protected by Oppo Crystal Shield Glass. This is a noticeable step up from the IPS LCD screen of the Oppo A3, which had a lower HD+ resolution and 1000 nits brightness.
Cameras: small improvements
- Front camera updated from 5 MP to 8 MP.
- The main camera remains unchanged: 50 MP main sensor + 2 MP secondary lens.
Battery and charging
Battery capacity increased from 5100 mAh to 6500 mAh, which significantly increases the battery life of the device. Fast charging at 45W remains unchanged. Despite the large battery, the body is only 7.65mm thick and weighs 189 grams, making the smartphone relatively thin and lightweight.
Performance and memory
The Oppo A5 is powered by Snapdragon 6 Gen 1, and depending on the configuration, users will get:
- 8GB or 12GB of LPDDR4X RAM,
- 128GB, 256GB or 512GB of internal UFS 3.1 memory.
There is no microSD card slot, so there is no way to expand storage.
Software and security
The smartphone runs on ColorOS 15 based on Android 15. The device also features NFC for contactless payments and is IP69 certified, which provides extreme water and dust protection.
Price and affordability
Oppo A5 will be available in three colors:
Diamond Pink
Mica Blue
Zircon Black
The smartphone will go on sale in China in the following configurations:
- 8GB / 128GB – 1,299 yuan (~$180)
- 8GB / 256GB – 1,499 yuan (~$210)
- 12GB / 256GB – 1,799 yuan (~$250)
- 12GB / 512GB – 1,999 yuan (~$280)
There is no information about the global launch yet.
