Oppo has unveiled the A5 Vitality Edition budget smartphone

Along with the Oppo A5, the company has also announced an even more affordable version of it in China – the Oppo A5 Vitality Edition. The simplified model features a number of changes, which is noticeable in both appearance and features.

Design and display
The main visual difference is the camera located in the top left corner. The smartphone is also available in new colors: Agate Pink, Jade Green and Amber Black.
When it comes to the screen, there has been a simplification. Unlike the AMOLED display in the standard A5, the Vitality Edition features a 6.67-inch IPS LCD panel with HD+ resolution. However, Oppo has retained the 120Hz refresh rate, which ensures a smooth interface despite the change in matrix type.

Cameras and protection
Photographic features remain unchanged:
- 50 MP main camera,
- 2 MP secondary sensor,
- 8 MP front camera.
The smartphone is IP69 certified, which means extreme protection against dust and water. The device is also equipped with Crystal Shield protection, and Oppo claims it has passed 14 military ruggedization tests.
Performance and Battery
The MediaTek Dimensity 6300 processor is responsible for the performance, combined with up to 12GB of LPDDR4X RAM and up to 512GB of UFS 2.2 storage.
The battery is slightly inferior to the A5: there’s a 5,800 mAh battery (vs. 6,500 mAh in the older model). However, it supports Fast Charging 45W, as well as PD charging 13.5W.

Price and Availability
Oppo A5 Vitality Edition will be sold in three variants:
- 8GB / 256GB – 1,199 yuan ($170),
- 12 GB / 256 GB – 1,399 yuan ($200),
- 12GB / 512GB – 1,599 yuan ($225).
China sales are scheduled to start on March 21, but there is no information on a global launch yet.
