According to a report from the Xbox Store, Call of Duty’s older versions are also in the top 5 of the Xbox Store’s US and UK charts.

This resurgence of interest in old Call of Duty installments is due to Activision’s sudden improved matchmaking. This allowed gamers on Xbox Series X/S and Xbox One to actively enjoy older versions of the game again through backwards compatibility. For example, the first Black Ops reached a peak online of 123,000 people, Black Ops II — 11,500 players, and Modern Warfare 3 — nearly 80,000 gamers.

Sources speculate that Microsoft and Activision Blizzard may be preparing to add classic versions of Call of Duty to the Game Pass catalog, which could be the reason for the servers being restored and matchmaking improved.
