Now, Tecno has announced an updated version of Universal Tone that significantly expands the skin tone database and enhances the multi-layer color recovery engine for more accurate color reproduction.

What’s new in Universal Tone

• Updated database: The new version of Universal Tone adds 372 color patches, 104 more than the previous version (268 patches). This expansion allows the system to take into account even more skin tones to make photos look more natural and closer to reality.

• Regional map for Saudi Arabia: A special color cardboard has been developed for improved skin tones in Saudi Arabia. This cardboard contains 187 unique shades to more accurately represent the variety of skin tones of the people of Saudi Arabia. For this purpose, Tecno collaborated with the University of Leeds (UK) and Dar Al-Hekma University (Saudi Arabia).
• Improved Algorithms: In the updated version of Universal Tone, the company has improved its multi-level skin color restoration engine by adding advanced algorithms such as CCM Skin Tone Calibration Algorithm and Spectrum-Based Automatic White Balance (AWB) Algorithm. These algorithms help to correctly adjust color and white balance when shooting people with different skin tones in the same frame.
  • CCM Algorithm: A color calibration algorithm that now works with an expanded database to provide more accurate color adjustments.
  • AWB algorithm: An improved auto white balance algorithm helps solve color distortion problems when shooting in monochrome photo scenes, improving exposure and white balance.
• Skin Tone Accuracy: With these updates, Tecno claims that skin tone accuracy has improved by more than 50%, making Universal Tone the company’s most advanced skin color aesthetics model.
