OpenAI launches new ChatGPT Pro plan for $200 per month

OpenAI, the team behind the widely used ChatGPT, has launched its «12 Days of 12 Broadcasts» event, promising a number of exciting announcements – both major and minor. And lo and behold, the first announcement has already taken place.
And now.
New ChatGPT Pro rate
OpenAI has introduced a new $200/month ChatGPT Pro plan that provides expanded access to the company’s most advanced models and tools. This plan includes unlimited use of OpenAI’s o1 model, as well as o1-mini, GPT-4o and Advanced Voice – the same one that generated a lot of attention earlier.

features and capabilities.
The plan also includes o1 Pro Mode, a more powerful version of the o1 model that utilizes additional processing power to solve more complex problems and provide even more accurate answers. OpenAI plans to add additional compute-intensive features to this plan in the future to increase productivity.

Compared to o1 and o1-preview, the o1 Pro mode performs better on complex machine learning tasks, especially in math, science, and programming. This smart version of the model takes longer to process queries, which the company says provides the most reliable answers. OpenAI says external experts have rated o1 Pro as showing more accurate and detailed answers, especially in areas such as data analysis, programming and law.

Availability and Cost
Of course, all of this comes with a hefty price tag of $200 per month, making the tariff unaffordable for regular users. Also, OpenAI is reportedly planning to charge $44 per month for the ChatGPT Plus plan by 2029, but don’t worry – the free version will probably remain available, though likely without access to top-end models, which might not be such a bad thing.

Potential benefits and limitations
With how quickly AI is evolving, limiting access to the best models seems like a perfectly reasonable idea. A high price may help prevent abuse, as AI has enormous potential, but it can also be used for nefarious purposes – such as creating dipfakes. Of course, those who want to use AI for harm can pay for access, but at least not everyone will be able to get these powerful tools.

Grants for Medical Researchers
On a positive note, OpenAI has announced 10 ChatGPT Pro grants to medical researchers at leading US institutions, with plans to expand the program to other regions and fields in the future. This, in my opinion, is a great application of AI – to help those who can make a real difference in the world.
