HMD is preparing a new XR22 smartphone with improved specs

HMD Global continues to delight fans with affordable smartphones, despite criticism for its limited lineup of devices, which includes mostly mid-range and low-end models. Next year, the company will apparently release a successor to the XR21, a smartphone dubbed the XR22. So far, the device has not been officially announced, but the main technical specifications have already become known thanks to leaks on the network.

Design and display improvements
While details about the screen size of the new device have not yet been revealed, it is known that the XR22 will feature Gorilla Glass Victus 2 protective glass. The display will get an OLED matrix with FHD+ resolution, 120Hz refresh rate and a peak brightness level of 1200 nits. That’s an improvement over the XR21, which had a more modest screen.

Performance and storage
In terms of performance, the XR22 will get a Qualcomm Snapdragon 6s Gen 3 processor, which is a slight step up from the Snapdragon 695 5G found in the XR21. The smartphone will feature 8GB of RAM and 256GB of internal storage, expandable up to 512GB via microSD card.

Improved camera and front-facing shooting
.
One of the biggest improvements will be the camera: while the XR21 had a dual camera with a 64 MP main sensor and an 8 MP ultra-wide sensor, the XR22 will have a triple camera including a 64 MP main camera, an 8 MP ultra-wide lens and an 8 MP camera for night shooting. Also worth noting is a significant improvement in the front camera – instead of 16 MP in the XR21, the XR22 will feature a 50 MP camera, which will provide significantly better selfies.

Price and release date
