Xbox is developing a handheld console, but it won’t be out anytime soon

Xbox chief Phil Spencer has confirmed that Microsoft is working on prototypes for handheld gaming devices, but a potential console is not imminent. In an interview with Bloomberg, Spencer noted that the company has plans for a Steam Deck style device, and expressed confidence that Microsoft “has to offer something of its own” in that category.

Microsoft’s view of the portable future
The company is already actively working on prototypes and analyzing the market to create its own version of a portable console. Spencer tasked his team to study the current developments and form a concept for the device based on the findings. He emphasized that the launch of the device is still several years ahead.
Spencer said that the device is still a few years away from launch.

Most Xbox plans
At this point, Xbox will focus on improving the performance of its app on existing handheld devices and working with hardware manufacturers to ensure their devices are synchronized and usable.
“In the long term, I like the idea of devices, and I think our team could come up with a really innovative solution, but we want to build on experience and the current state of affairs,” Spencer said.
