Deadlock: everything we know now about Valve’s new game

After a slew of rumors, leaks, and hard evidence surrounding a new game called Deadlock, Valve has publicly confirmed that the game exists. It remains to be seen if Valve can continue their streak of success and make one of the best PC games ever with this new multiplayer shooter. If Deadlock isn’t already on your list of most anticipated PC games, here are all the reasons why it should be there.

Here are all the reasons why it should be.

Suggestions about Deadlock’s release date

It’s no secret that Valve has significantly slowed down the pace of new game development. Having released some of the best games of all time like Portal, Left 4 Dead, and Half-Life, we haven’t seen much from the team since Half-Life: Alyx.

After Half-Life: Alyx.

So it’s almost impossible to guess, but based on reports of people playing Deadlock by special invitation, the game could be coming in the next few months or it could need another year of beta testing. Based on that, as well as leaked footage, we’d say the game is still at least six months away from release, as there’s still plenty of temporary art and assets in the game.

So we’d say it’s still at least six months away.

Platforms

The game will definitely be released on PC, but the question of consoles remains open for now. It makes sense that a multiplayer shooter like Deadlock should be cross-platform, but some of Valve’s games, like Counter-Strike 2, remain PC-only. We’ll have to wait for more details to answer that question.

More information to come.

Trailers

Valve hasn’t officially unveiled Deadlock, despite there being so much information about it already. The only footage you can find has been posted by users on their own.

Gameplay

Thanks to a detailed report from The Verge, people have gotten a great idea of what Deadlock is all about. Essentially Deadlock will be a shooter with 6v6 heroes and MOBA elements similar to Smite. You choose a hero and engage the enemy while four lines of NPC thugs rush towards the center. The game will also feature various turrets, again like Smite or DOTA 2, which act as automatic defenses that teams must destroy and get past.

By defeating enemy warriors and players, you level up and unlock new abilities and hero benefits using currency. Upgrades are divided into the categories of Weapon, Vitality, and Spirit. Each has more than a dozen options at different prices, but you can also choose between early, mid, and late character development options.

Free movement — one of Deadlock’s core mechanics. Players will be able to run, slide, double jump and air jump at any time. There are also ziplines, which allow for quick and easy movement between points on the map.
