Marvel: Robert Downey Jr. has spoken out about returning to the CWM

When Robert Downey Jr. returned to the Marvel universe at Comic-Con, it raised more questions than it answered. Why would Downey return to the CWM just a few years after his last outing? A better question is how. How could Downey return to Marvel if Tony Stark died in “Avengers: The Finale”?”
On The Hollywood Reporter’s “Awards Chatter” podcast, Downey revealed that a meeting between him, his wife Susan and Marvel Studios president Kevin Feigi sparked his interest in working with KVM again.

At one point Susan and I were sitting with Feige and he said: “I keep wondering if you’d come back,” — Downey explained. And Susan was like, “Wait, come back as what?”. Over time, we both realized that was another thing that just refuted any doubts about this guy, a very complex creative thinker.”

Downey had a lot of questions — and justifiably so. But Feigi had no interest in resurrecting Tony. Instead, he had a different plan involving Victor Von Doom, the infamous villain best known for his battles with Reed Richards of the Fantastic Four.

“How do we not go backwards? How do we not disappoint expectations? How do we continue to exceed expectations?” said Downey. “And he [Feigi] mentioned Victor Von Doom. I looked at that character and I said: ‘Wow.’ Later he said: “Let’s make Victor Von Doom the way he should be. Let’s do it right.”
The comeback was almost finalized, but Downey and Feigi needed approval from Disney CEO Bob Iger. Downey met at Iger’s house and explained his intentions to play Doom. Fortunately, everyone liked the idea.
All were happy with the idea.

Downey appeared as Doom at Comic-Con 2024 in San Diego, making his return official. Downey will star in “Avengers: Judgment Day” and “Avengers: Secret Wars.” It’s rumored that Downey will be paid around $100 million for the two Avengers films.
