Gamescom Opening Night Live 2024: everything that was revealed at the show

Although June — the busiest month for video game presentations, summer doesn’t truly end until after Gamescom Opening Night Live. The annual live broadcast that kicks off the Gamescom convention in Germany has become the biggest gaming show outside of Summer Game Fest. And that’s no coincidence, considering Jeff Keeley hosts both events. This year’s Opening Night Live was massive, with more than 60 new titles shown during the two-hour show (and the half-hour pre-show before it).
The show was a huge success.
What was on the agenda? We saw Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, Monster Hunter Wilds, Civilization 7, Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 and more. There are some big surprises in the form of Borderlands 4 and Masters of Albion, a new game from Peter Molyneux. In addition, release dates have been announced that set this year’s holiday calendar.
A number of new games have been announced.
The announcement of Borderlands 4 came out rather dramatic

Borderlands 4 got a grand introduction thanks to a dramatic teaser trailer. We saw a realistic video of planets crashing and burning, and then caught a glimpse of the iconic raider mask. It looked like some kind of gimmick, which is appropriate for this game series. We don’t know much about it beyond that, but it’s set to launch in 2025.

Dying Light: The Beast is unleashed
.

After the teaser shown at Gamescom, we got a glimpse of a new Dying Light game called Dying Light: The Beast. The trailer shows familiar first-person gameplay, lots of parkour and zombie killing. This is a brand new open-world game, not a spin-off. It’s noted that it will be around 20 hours long, making it a bit shorter than the regular game in the series.

Dune: Awakening has gotten a big review trailer

Dune: Awakening will be released in early 2025. During the Gamescom presentation, you could see everything including customization, character classes, base building, and more. Crafting is an important part of the game, as players use replicators to create items and sell blueprints to other players. We also saw a lot of exploration on Arrakis: players can pilot an ornithopter to reach various settlements that are full of factions and other players. And, of course, we got a glimpse of the intense battles over spice.

Masters of Albion — Peter Molyneux’s new game

To much surprise, legendary game creator Peter Molyneux took to the stage to unveil his new game.
