Qualcomm buys semiconductor company Autotalks

Qualcomm Technologies has announced its intentions to acquire semiconductor company Autotalks, specializing in V2X communications.

The automotive industry is growing rapidly thanks to digital technology and innovation. Connectivity is central to this transformation, paving the way for next-generation software-defined vehicles that enhance the driving experience, improve safety and enable new business models. V2X communications technology, which allows vehicles to communicate with each other and their environment, has become an important component of automotive safety systems.

Autotalks has been involved in V2X communications that reduce collisions and increase mobility since 2009. Qualcomm’s purchase of Autotalks will accelerate the development and deployment of V2X solutions that improve efficiency and road safety.

Nakul Duggal, senior vice president and general manager of automotive at Qualcomm Technologies, expressed his commitment to V2X and his belief in the V2X autonomous safety architecture. He also noted that both companies are focused on solving real-world road safety problems, and together they will provide global V2X solutions that will accelerate market entry and enable mass adoption.
