Yandex has opened a PhD program in AI

The faster artificial intelligence develops, the more in demand it becomes. That’s why Yandex decided to get ahead of the curve and open its own graduate school in this new and interesting field. And first of all, the company wants to create new comfortable conditions for the development of AI and contribute to the emergence of new young scientists in the country.

The postgraduate program will be opened together with the National Research University Higher School of Economics and ITMO. And the attention, first of all, will turn to practice. Also, the company is not forgetting about supportive measures. For example, graduate students will receive grants of 800 thousand rubles each academic year. Future scientists will be able to spend this money on the creation of new technologies and their implementation. Also, each student will get access to the Yandex Cloud.

In addition to the main partners — NIU HSE and ITMO, Yandex plans to increase the number of partners in the future, which in turn will allow not only to develop this direction and graduate school, but also to help young scientists in employment, development and practice.

The postgraduate students will focus not only on theory, as is often the case in higher education, but also on practice. In this they will be assisted by Yandex experts. Also, throughout their studies (3-4 years), graduate students will be able to participate in conferences and undergo internships in foreign universities and laboratories.

Yandex postgraduate students will be able to enter Yandex in the fall of 2024. To do this, you will need to pass entrance tests and an interview with project managers. In the first intake, they will be Mikhail Levin, senior developer of Yandex’s autonomous transportation, and Dmitry Rybalko, architect of ML-services in Yandex Cloud.
