Ugreen Nexode Pro review: great chargers for all gadgets

Do you remember the days when every device needed its own charger and your bag was a warehouse of chargers? Thankfully, those days are a thing of the past. In 2024, almost all new devices, whether they’re smartphones, tablets or laptops, have USB-C connectors. This has been a real lifesaver for users, because now you just need one universal charger to charge all your gadgets. In addition to versatility, the new generation chargers have become more powerful and compact. This is thanks to the introduction of gallium nitride (GaN) charging technology. GaN chargers are able to deliver more current at a smaller size and weight than traditional chargers. And here, the Ugreen Nexode Pro is a great example of such chargers. They can charge any smartphone and even laptops. And it fits easily into any backpack or even a pocket (if you have a large enough one).

I’ve been using the Nexode Pro chargers for over a month now and I’m convinced that they are the best power adapters you can buy today. This is especially true for MacBook owners, as the Nexode Pro series is capable of providing these devices with fast charging.

Yes, these power adapters don’t come cheap. But they can replace several cheaper adapters at once, while delivering up to 160W of power. I’ve pretty much stopped using other adapters since the Nexode Pro 160W lets me charge my laptop and all my main gadgets (two smartphones and a watch) at the same time.

Packaging and Packaging

All adapters come in pretty much the same box. But of course, slightly different sizes. Inside there is just the adapter and a little bit of descriptive paper. Each adapter is carefully packed in a pouch.

But there’s nothing else in the boxes. No cables or adapters or anything else. Just the adapter and nothing extra. Just like Apple.

Ugreen Nexode Pro 65W

Ugreen’s Nexode Pro series opens with a 65W base model. Resembling an elongated cube, this unit is quite small. But despite its diminutive size, it features two USB-C ports and one USB-A port.

The main USB-C port provides a full 65 watts of power to your device when it’s the only one connected. This is ideal for laptops. Ugreen claims this unit can charge a MacBook Air M2 to about half charge in about 30 minutes, which my own testing confirms.

The USB-C port provides a full 65 watts of power to your device when it’s the only one plugged in.

Simultaneous use of all three USB ports, however, will limit the power of the main USB-C port to 45W. That’s enough to charge the M2 MacBook Air, but may not be enough for other laptops with USB-C. So if you’re planning to charge multiple powerful devices at the same time, it’s worth considering other Nexode Pro chargers with more power when using all ports.

Ugreen Nexode Pro 100W

For those who need a little more power, Ugreen offers the Nexode Pro 100W. It’s very similar to the 65-watt version, but a little longer and a little larger overall to provide increased charging power. And justifiably so: Ugreen says it can charge a 14-inch MacBook Pro to half charge in less than half an hour. I’ve used several 100-watt chargers before, but none were as compact as Ugreen’s Nexode Pro. Surprisingly, even Ugreen used to have a 100W adapter that was almost twice as big (now it’s more like a 160W version). Look at how huge it used to be.

In terms of size, the Nexode Pro 100W power supply is, I’d say, 40-50% smaller than Apple’s official 100W charger. It’s important to keep in mind that Apple has just one USB-C port, while Ugreen has as many as three. The extra power of the Nexode Pro 100W means that your main device will still get 65W when all ports are used at the same time.

The Nexode Pro 100W thus acts as a great compromise for those who want to replace a bulky laptop charger without spending too much. It offers compactness, ample power, and versatility with three ports.

Ugreen Nexode Pro 160W

This is the most versatile charger, capable of powering everything from phones to laptops.

At the top of the Nexode Pro lineup sits the 160W model, and it’s the one that has revolutionized the way I charge my devices. Thanks to its specs, this power supply is capable of delivering around 140W of power to your primary device (most likely a laptop). In practice, I was able to charge my 13-inch MacBook Air from 6% to 50% in just 26 minutes, and then from 50% to 75% in another 20 minutes. In doing so, I actively used the laptop for photo editing, word processing, and web browsing. Given my laptop’s already excellent battery life, the 20-minute charge gave it hours of additional use.

Remember the fast charging wireless headphones that provide an hour of use in just a few minutes? The Nexode Pro 160W does the same thing, but for laptops. And it does it even more efficiently. The company says you can half-charge a 16-inch MacBook Pro in just 30 minutes.

But most importantly, with its four ports, the Ugreen Nexode Pro 160W is the only charger I’ve ever needed when traveling. It provides fast charging for my laptop, allows me to connect other gadgets at the same time, and all in a compact package.

All in all, it’s the only charger I’ve ever used on the road.
