The updated Apple Vision Pro with M5 chip and new Dual Knit Band has been unveiled

Apple has unveiled the next-generation Vision Pro headset with a powerful M5 chip that delivers a leap in performance, sharper images, AI-powered acceleration and longer battery life. The updated model features a soft Dual Knit Band for a more comfortable fit and a new version of the operating system, visionOS 26, which gives you access to innovative spatial experiences such as interactive widgets, updated Persona, the Jupiter virtual environment, and new Apple Intelligence features with support for additional languages.

At launch, users have access to more than one million apps and thousands of games in the App Store, hundreds of 3D movies in the Apple TV app, and new shows and movies in Apple Immersive – including upcoming live NBA games. The Vision Pro with M5 chip and Dual Knit Band is available for pre-order now on Apple’s website and will go on sale starting October 22.

According to Bob Borchers, Apple’s vice president of Worldwide Marketing, “The new Vision Pro with the M5 chip sets a new standard for vision computing, offering even faster performance, crisper images and longer battery life. And with the new Dual Knit Band and visionOS 26 features, using Vision Pro is even more convenient and fun.”

Powerful M5 chip

The M5 is built on a 3nm process and features a next-generation 10-core CPU and 10-core GPU. It supports hardware accelerated ray tracing and mesh shading for realistic lighting and shadows in games like Control. Vision Pro with M5 processes 10% more pixels than the previous version, delivering sharper images and text. Refresh rates can reach up to 120 Hz, which reduces motion blur.

The headset is paired with an R1 chip that processes data from 12 cameras, five sensors and six microphones. Image output latency is as low as 12 milliseconds, creating a real-life immersive experience. The rechargeable battery provides up to 2.5 hours of battery life in standard scenarios and up to 3 hours of video playback.

The 16-core Neural Engine accelerates AI-based functions up to 50% faster than the previous model. Developers are already taking advantage of this advantage: for example, JigSpace is implementing Apple Intelligence support for interactive 3D models that make it easier to visualize complex objects like wind turbines.

New Dual Knit Band

The Dual Knit Band is made of a one-piece 3D knit material with two layers for cushioning, ventilation, and elasticity. The bottom of the strap has tungsten inclusions that act as a counterweight for balance and stability. Adjustments are made with a convenient Fit Dial mechanism. The Dual Knit Band is available in three sizes (S, M, L), sold separately, and is compatible with the previous Vision Pro version.
