Apple is reportedly actively working on its first foldable iPhone, and more and more information about the device has been surfacing in recent months. Now, analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has revealed new details regarding the cost of the hinge, which will be a key part of the design.

According to Kuo, the hinge for the foldable iPhone will cost $20 to $40 less than previously estimated. The component plays a crucial role in the design of foldable smartphones, ensuring that the flexible display opens and closes securely. Such mechanisms are usually expensive to produce, but Apple has managed to keep costs down, according to an insider.

Kuo predicts that when mass-produced, the cost of a single hinge will be around $70-80, while the market price of such components now reaches $100-120 or more.

Foxconn, a longtime Apple partner, and Shin Zu Shing will handle the production. They’ll account for about 65% of all orders, with Amphenol doing the rest. It’s also possible that Luxshare will join production at a later date, but only if the foldable iPhone proves successful &#8212 which may not happen until 2027.
