Sega launches new account system for players

Sega has announced the launch of a new player account platform that will bring together all games and services from Sega and Atlus into a single system. With Sega Account, users will be able to receive news, updates, events and promotions related to the two studios’ games. Registration is free, and anyone can join the system.
Bonuses for Sega Account holders
To attract players, Sega is offering exclusive bonuses. The first of these will be a special Kazuma Kiryu costume for the DLC for the game Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii. This bonus can be obtained by anyone who creates an account before March 7.

The move to a bonus and personal account system is becoming an industry standard, especially with the rise in popularity of “games-as-a-service” models. Sega was late in adopting such a system, but it’s slowly catching up to the trends.

What’s missing from the new platform so far
Some features that players are used to are currently missing from the system. For example, the game stats and records page is not yet available. It’s also unclear whether Sega plans to make registration mandatory for all users in the future.

Future projects and features
Sega has hinted at plans to expand the platform’s capabilities and announced that “various new services and features” will be coming to the platform in the future. Among the company’s upcoming projects is an all-new installment in the Virtua Fighter series. However, despite launching new games, Sega has recently stopped supporting some of its classic projects, indicating a phase of transformation within the company.
