Samsung Galaxy S25 will support Qi2, but only through a case

Samsung Galaxy S25 will support Qi2, but only through a case

Two years ago, the Qi2 wireless charging standard was introduced, which includes a magnetic alignment system borrowed from Apple’s MagSafe. Recent leaks suggest that the Galaxy S25 may support Qi2, but with certain limitations.

Magnetic Case and Qi2

The other day, a list of branded accessories for the Galaxy S25 was leaked online, mentioning the Magnet Case. This sparked rumors that the smartphone would get Qi2 support. However, as it turns out, it’s not quite that simple.

The Wireless Power Consortium, which is responsible for the Qi standard, has confirmed that devices with the Qi2 logo will necessarily feature the Magnetic Power Profile (MPP) magnetic alignment system. But there’s a chance that the Galaxy S25 won’t have the Qi2 logo, which means it will only be able to charge with up to 15W of power, but without magnetic alignment.

Role Magnet Case

If the Galaxy S25 really doesn’t get built-in MPP support, magnetic alignment and full Qi2 compatibility will only be available with a proprietary Magnet Case. OnePlus 13 uses a similar strategy, which also doesn’t have built-in MPP, but supports magnetic alignment via dedicated cases.

benefits.

If Samsung integrates the full Qi2 standard into its flagships, such as the Galaxy S26, it will open up access to useful accessories such as:

  • Magnetic chargers
  • .

  • Magnetic Mounted Overbanks
  • Wallets held on the back of the device
  • Holders for cars
  • Magnetic popsockets

Closure

At the moment, the Galaxy S25 can only partially support Qi2, and an additional accessory will be required to fully utilize the MPP magnetic system. Hopefully, Samsung will make this technology a standard for its flagships in the future, allowing users to enjoy all the benefits of magnetic alignment without having to buy additional cases.
